The 24th Annual Meeting of Taiwan Neurosurgical Spine Society

When the lilting melody of the Bunun-language song Cina Mama filled the hall, the Nibun Chorus, fresh from winning gold at the Tokyo International Choir Competition and having traveled all the way from Liou-Guei, Kaohsiung, instantly captured the audience’s attention with the pure, crystalline voices of its 32 indigenous children. The Super Band, a local ensemble that has cultivated its craft in Kaohsiung for 35 years, followed with a medley of Chinese and Western classics, elevating the banquet atmosphere to its peak. Behind the seamless transition between the Nibun Chorus and the band was a meticulous coordination effort, with repeated communication on every detail, overcoming spatial constraints, and ultimately transforming the entire preparation process into a memorable musical feast enjoyed by all.

To showcase Kaohsiung’s local culture, this year’s meeting curated the “Kaohsiung‘s Mountain Goodies” offering booth space free of charge and inviting local farmers affected by Typhoon Denise to sell their products onsite. Despite the challenges posed by blocked mountain roads, we persisted, communicating tirelessly and reaching out through multiple channels, until we finally secured the participation of the Namasia Agricultural Products Cooperative and the Christian Mountain Children’s Home. The host further purchased coffee gift sets as souvenirs, translating their commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) into concrete support for post-disaster recovery.

Academically, the meeting centered on “In the Name of Spine,” highlighting Taiwan’s strong research capacity and international ambitions in neurosurgical spine medicine. Despite competing international conferences, the program delivered 48 special lectures, 60 paper presentations, and welcomed 10 overseas speakers from Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Singapore, attracting 286 professionals. The meeting advanced the Society’s S.P.I.N.E. values, including Stability, Precision, Innovation, Neurosurgery, and Education, while fostering new directions in medical development.

Blending academic rigor, cultural expression, and social responsibility, the meeting showcased the Taiwan Neurosurgical Spine Society’s professional excellence and international perspective, and shared Taiwan’s achievements in spinal medicine with the world.
